Seven Went Down In Tennessee
So I’m down at the Crossroads Country Store early of the
morn havin’ my usual cup o’ java (free refills, ye know) when the
dark bold of a front page story in the local newspaper catches my
eye:
COPPERHILL ARRESTS 7 AT WHITEWATER RODEO
Shipsafire! What in tarnation is this all about? So I reach
into the rack and fetch out that paper and commence to read on:
“The Copperhill Police Department arrested seven people
during activities related to the Ocoee Whitewater Rodeo this past
weekend. In spite of the arrests, ‘It went better than expected,’ said
police Chief Glen Stiles. Rodeo events included a party at The
Runway package store on Saturday night. ‘Seven arrests out of
1,500 (participants) aren’t bad odds,’ Stiles said. Charges in the
arrests included marijuana possession, disorderly conduct, public
intoxication and DUI. Stiles thanked the Polk County Sheriff’s
Department for assisting his department over the weekend. ‘I
appreciate the cooperation of the sheriff’s department,’ he said.
‘They helped out with transporting prisoners and had extra men
available if they were needed.’ ”
So I folded up that paper real good (in case anyone wanted
to buy it) and fetched it back into the rack. Then I thought:
Who in tarnation invited them seven open boaters to the rodeo?
